A virtual office uses the address of an actually operated office with mail services and bookable rooms. A letterbox company exists only on paper: there is no business operation behind the address.
The difference has practical consequences. Official documents cannot be reliably served at an unstaffed letterbox address, and banks and business partners are skeptical of addresses without substance.
